Revisions:

P1: Solid first line, simple. Change I am definitely interested to something along the lines “I would love to be considered a candidate.

P2: Alter “I’ll be graduating in Spring 2021.” Get into more concrete stuff and more specific. Coney why interested in the position. Potentially move Microsoft office stuff down a paragraph. Essentially focus on the qualities that make me a good applicant for the position in question.

P3: Change “something I know your posting to called for” to something more along the lines of “something I know will be required for this position.” Show off more personal qualities (maybe shift some stuff from the second paragraph down. Make an emotional connection and make it more personal.

P4: direct reader to resume and add “my resume attached.”

I love the peer review process, because others see things you won’t or sometimes can’t. I know my group helped clarify my understanding of the application of the AIDA model in a cover letter, and I hope I could help do the same for them with my own perspective. I will also say that it’s nice working with someone you’re familiar with and have been through the process with before, like Harry, because they have a certain familiarity with your writing and style, offering deeper feedback.

Journal 11:

After completing my cover letter, I realized I need to make sure I’m using proper language on official business documents such as this. My group provided me incredibly helpful feedback on how to rework and reword things so they don’t come off the wrong way. I write pretty colloquially a lot of the time, and while that is kind of endearing in some forms of writing, it is very unprofessional and not the way to go about something such as this. I was pretty on point in terms of grammar and spelling, which was nice.

It was hard for me to get comfortable selling myself because I don’t like to brag and most of my humor and personality is based on downplaying myself, but once I met with my group and got some solid feedback, I knew I had to really sell myself here and a make a connection, or else I’ll never make it out of the applicant pool.

After its completion, I feel confident about my cover letter. I feel it is confident, but not cocky, professional, but with some personality. I feel like these are the things that set us apart and put us in good position during the hiring process. And as a senior who is currently applying for jobs, this is really helpful and I feel it fine tuned my cover letter skills in a way that was quite necessary.
